Why Schedule a Visit?

Holy Liturgy is very different from other forms of worship. It's a song everyone in the church knows the words to, and it can be baffling to a first-timer. We sit, we stand, we greet one another with a holy kiss, we bow down to worship, and we do it all with barely a signal exchanged.

Our Sunday services are performed in three languages: English, Arabic, and Coptic (the language of the ancient Egyptians). To those of us who have attended for years, it seems second nature, but to a first-timer it will feel strange to see how smoothly we flow from one language to the next and back -- even mid-sentence.

Scheduling a visit means that you can have someone next to you to guide you and answer any questions. You'll be able to learn and observe with full understanding that we're there for you :o).

Schedule a Visit!

We want YOU to join us in prayer and worship!

Come see how Christianity has been kept alive in Egypt for 2000 years!

If this will be your first time to visit an Orthodox church, the best way to understand and enjoy our form of worship is to have someone standing by you to explain and support you. To that end, we invite you to schedule a visit, that is, let us know ahead of time that you'll be joining us. You'll have a saved spot in the pews and a friendly face to greet you. We will be more than happy to answer questions before, during, and after the Liturgy!

If you're looking for a quiet and personal first visit, the first Saturday of the month is a primarily English service. Although we'll still use lots of Coptic, there will be less Arabic to sort through! This Saturday Liturgy is followed by Kids Day, a fun time for servants and students to eat together, play soccer, and grow closer to God's Word.

Frederica Matthewes-Green's article "12 Things I Wish I'd Known" (link in box at right) is the best introduction to the Liturgy yours truly has ever read. Although as Copts we worship with some very slight differences from the Greek or Russian Orthodox, this essay will really help clarify the hows and whys for you!
